Who is Vokavi for?
Students practising English vocabulary and families with several learners. Short exercises lead to an independent written check.
What does learned mean?
A word counts as learned after a correct, freely written answer in the final check. Hints, multiple-choice answers and self-assessment do not award this result. It applies to the profile, vocabulary entry and learning direction; it does not promise permanent recall.
Why is a word still unfinished?
It has not passed a written check, or a later written answer was incorrect. Entries with placeholders or answers that cannot be checked unambiguously also remain unfinished and are shown separately.
Can I save several study units?
Yes. Learning a complete lesson selection saves a study unit automatically. Vocabulary → Study units lets you name, reopen or remove selections. Removing a unit does not delete its vocabulary or previous written results.
Will learned words keep appearing?
The normal learning flow skips words already passed in writing. Choose to repeat learned words for a focused review. An incorrect written answer makes a word unfinished again.
Does Vokavi work offline?
Local learning with saved lists and included recordings works without the internet. Optional iCloud family sharing needs an internet connection.
Can I import my own vocabulary?
Create lists in the app or import CSV files or a compatible JSON catalogue. CSV files need at least english and german columns; book, unit and section can add structure.
How do I back up my progress?
Export a complete backup from Settings. It includes profiles, progress, lists and interrupted rounds. A CSV export contains vocabulary only. Restoring a backup replaces the current local state after confirmation.
How do family profiles work?
Several profiles can keep separate learning progress on one device. Show the Family tab in Settings → Appearance when needed. Sharing across devices is optional and must be explicitly configured. Hiding the tab does not revoke an existing share; end sharing on the learning device.
Why is dictation unavailable?
The learning keyboard has no dictation, autocorrection or word suggestions. This lets the written check assess whether you can write the answer yourself.
Which devices are supported?
Vokavi is designed for iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 18 or later, with light and dark appearance and adjustable text size.
